A packet I confess to still enjoying on occasion. Then somewhere along the way I learned how easy it was to skip the packet and make the dip homemade. Life has never been the same.

With college basketball playoffs upon us, it was time to up my game…food wise. Chips and dip are always a crowd favorite, which got me to thinking about French onion dip. I’ve been craving steak and knew they’d pair wonderfully together. My final decision was down to the chip. Which chip would be the vehicle for this combination?

My answer was found at Target.

Pringles.French Onion Steak Bites ~ Classic French onion dip and a perfectly seared steak rested on a quintessential snack chip and a fresh parsley garnish ~ The Complete Savorist #HoopsWithCrunch adI mean is there a better chip? It’s already curved to be the perfect vessel to hold both the seared streak strips and the homemade dip. Pringles are one of those irresistible snacks that once the can has popped, you just can’t help yourself. There are just too many ways to love ’em. I am sad to say that these won’t last long. Don’t plan on any leftovers (unless you squirrel some ingredients away for later), my crowd devoured the plateful immediately, and when I replenished it, they devoured those too.French Onion Steak Bites ~ Classic French onion dip and a perfectly seared steak rested on a quintessential snack chip and a fresh parsley garnish ~ The Complete Savorist #HoopsWithCrunch adFrench Onion Steak Bites ~ Classic French onion dip and a perfectly seared steak rested on a quintessential snack chip and a fresh parsley garnish ~ The Complete Savorist #HoopsWithCrunch ad

  • 1 1/2 cups caramelized onions
  • 1 tsp granulated garlic
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Steak

  • 1-8-10 oz steak
  • Salt/pepper; to taste
  • 2-3 tbsp butter
  • 2-5.96 oz canisters Pringles Original
  • Fresh parsley , loose leaves; torn

Instructions

French onion dip

  1. Mix all the ingredients together, cover, and chill for at least one hour allowing all the flavors to meld.

Steak

  1. Season the steak with salt and pepper liberally on both sides, allow to set for a few minutes.
  2. Heat a cast iron skillet over high heat.
  3. Add the butter and immediately drop the steak.
  4. Do not touch the steak for 3 minutes, allowing it to get a perfect sear.
  5. Flip the steak and allow it to cook for 2-4 minutes, depending on desired doneness.
  6. Remove from pan and allow to rest for several minutes before slicing.
  7. Slice and cut the steak into 1-inch thin strips.

This is a perfect appetizer! The only problem I foresee is I’m afraid the steak and french onion dip would mean that any guests would devour them and not be hungry for dinner anymore!
